January 2006 Audio Archive Podcast Posted

I've posted the Nocturne Society Audio Archive from January 2006 over on Podbean. Going through the podcast thought perhaps I shouldn't post it because the beginning starts off with some basic housekeeping chatter and I sound SUPER depressed which I often used to be.  But once I get into the topic of the evening it was again of my death which at the time was very fresh in my mind.  Listening to myself speak about it again was pretty hard, very emotional so I decided to post it.

To listen to the podcast you can go to Podbean and download it from Google Play or iTunes. Or you can just press play from our podcast player on the right.
https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-e66br-d1763e

This concludes our Podbean upload limit for January.  Next month we can start again with a new episode and another Audio Archive from the past.  Next month's Audio Archive is REALLY good! My favorite episode so look forward to that.

We've solved our podcast space issues! Thanks to the good folks over at Ghostly Podcast for their suggestion to move to Podbean.  I've setup our account and started moving the podcasts over from Soundcloud.

There is a limit to the amount I can move per month so it may take some time for use to catch up, but we'll get there.  Plus you can now listen on iTunes and GooglePlay!!  So awesome!

December Audio Archive Podcast Posted

Just posted the Audio Archive for December, going way back to 2005.  In this one I cover a newly found theory (from 2005) as to why the Bermuda Triangle which seems to solve the mystery.

Also I talk about our "made up" rules about ghosts. "They have unfinished business." "They died suddenly and don't realize they need to move on." We have placed these theories as to why somewhere is haunted and they have almost become facts to the paranormal community.

So give it a listen and I hope you enjoy it..

Paranormal Researchers VS Ghost Hunters

I think Jennifer Lauer of the Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group said it best when she told me there are two kinds of investigators, there are paranormal researchers and ghost hunters.

Paranormal researchers are searching for real scientific answers for the mysteries of the paranormal. They study parapsychology and consider all avenues of rational explanation before calling something paranormal evidence.

Ghost hunters on the other hand are weekend hobbyists. They are often overly enthusiastic to see a ghost and are rather quick to call something paranormal evidence. The internet and cable TV is overflowing with ghost hunters displaying a multitude of orb and mist photography. While I would encourage someone to pursue the subject if interested, the sea of un scrutinized evidence passed off as fact is diluting the field.

I think we need to remember that 99% of what we see, hear, smell, etc. has nothing to do with anything paranormal. Our imaginations are very creative. Welcome criticism and suggestions. It may hurt that something you proudly captured on film or EVP isn't really a ghost, but if you don't try to rationally explain we're basically creating hoaxes. I really think steps need to be taken by an investigator to be as skeptical as possible when looking at evidence of paranormal activity. Questions and possible explanations should always be welcomed. However in general I find the paranormal community isn't really open to such suggestions. If something is questioned the defenses instantly come up and rational conversation ends. Often it ends with them saying something about being "more open minded" to things. I've been kicked out of internet forums for even suggesting something might not be a ghost. A forum full of investigators stroking each others egos really gets nothing accomplished.

Below is a picture that is a perfect example. I was standing there when this picture was taken. I saw her snap the shot on her digital camera and then she came running over saying she got something weird. Without a doubt it is strange. As you can see the house in the background is not blurred so the camera was not in motion when the photo was taken,ut whatever is causing those colorful streaks appears to be in motion. We saw no source for this and did not see them when the photo was being taken. Is it paranormal though? I don't think so. Even though I was standing right there, I don't see anything about it that looks paranormal. Strange lights caused by something when the photo was taken yes, but I feel it was something we just didn't notice. What makes me think this are the "s" curves in them. Notice how they all look identical, almost mechanical rather than organic. I don't doubt the camera caught something, I just don't think it was paranormal.

Here's another example that happened to me. I was sitting on my couch when I saw what looked like a small black creature run down the hallway in our house. I got up and ran after it but it vanished. I stopped and thought about what just happened. I was sitting on the couch with my back towards large windows. I was wearing my glasses and a van had just driven down the street. I though perhaps the van reflected on the inside of my glasses creating the illusion of a shape moving down the hall. So I sat there and waited for another vehicle to pass by. Sure enough as the car passed I saw it's reflection on the inside of my glasses. The point is of course that if I just took my initial reaction as fact then a strange ghost creature was loose in my house. But after thinking it through a reason was found. Not as fun as a ghost creature but it solved the mystery.

Its so exciting when you feel you've found something.  It sucks when you find solution that debunks it, but really not doing so hurts everyone looking for answers. So I beg you all to listen to other people's criticisms and consider possible explanations for evidence you collect. Also state your opinions of other groups evidence, don't just congratulate them on a good find. At the very least don't post evidence if you don't want honest opinions about it and can't take criticisms.

At the very least if you hear hoof beats, don't expect to find unicorns.

Nocturne Society Audio Archive

The uploading has begun.  I have decided to move all my audio programs to the YouTube channel so that they may live on.

Starting from way back in 2005 and 2006 I created 10 episodes exploring topics of paranormal, supernatural, cryptozoology, and the unexplained.  There are interviews where other share their stories and even a radio program I was invited to be a part of.

Who knows, perhaps it will inspire me to start it all back up again.  I'm going to try and upload a couple each night.  Remember they are purely audio, the creepy visuals are just a video loop .....maybe.

Ghost Screaming in Room 209

I'm sure most people have seen this video before.  If you haven't the story is that people were complaining to management about a woman screaming in one of the room that had no assigned occupant.  An employee is sent to investigate.  He is able to confirm he hears screaming and opens the room to find nobody.  The furniture is overturned, rug is torn, shower is running.  Ghostalkers does an excellent job of dissecting the video and asking showing some real holes.

As the viewer we really see nothing and are left to rely on the audio as fact.  Personally I find the floating apparition a bit over the top.  Also I would believe it more if there wasn't a music track.  In my opinion this video is a hoax because nothing has ever been confirmed.  Not the people in the video, not the police report, not even the hotel where it happened.  But it's still really fun to consider what if it wasn't fake?

We Want To Know Your Thoughts

I really want to seriously consider doing a podcast or maybe a YouTube Live stream about paranormal topics but only if it involves you.  Take a look at the video below and let me know if this is something you'd be interest to see.

The Sleep Watcher: A TRUE Ghost Story

My grandparents lived in a two-story farmhouse about 5 miles outside of a sleepy Iowa town. The house was up on a hill surrounded by their farmland, and a sizable yard with deep ditches. I would help my grandparents mow lawn. I, of course, got the rougher job of mowing those ditches and trimming with the push mower. There were other things I’d rather be doing on a summer day, but they paid me and my grandfather always kept the fridge stocked with soda, so I didn’t mind.

Once school started they would pick me up from school and I would stay the night there. The second floor of the house had two bedrooms and one large room between them. In one of the bedrooms there was a bed, desk, and dresser so if I had homework I’d often do it up there. It was nice because I didn’t have my own room at home. However, when it got late my grandparents would always call me to come downstairs and sleep on the couch. I found this strange. I would ask them why I couldn’t just sleep in the room upstairs and they always said, “we just want you down here with us.” This went on for several months.

One day back at my house I was having a conversation with my mother about the next time I needed to go out and mow their lawn. So I decided to ask her if she knew why I always had to sleep on the couch when there was a perfectly good bed upstairs. She said, “Because at night there is a man that watches you sleep.” She just blurted it out as casual as can be. I said, “there’s a WHAT? A man?” “Well it’s not really a man, it’s a ghost or something,” she said. “You’ve seen it?” I asked. She said, “Yes, it’s been there since I was a little girl. My sister and I had to move our room downstairs because we just couldn’t sleep up there.” “Yeah right,” I replied. She then said, “Well if you don’t believe me ask your father. When we first got married we stayed up there for a few months until we found a home. He saw it too.” So I ran off to talk to my father.

Now my father is a no nonsense person. I’d even say grumpy. He never had time for “ghost crap.” I walked into his workshop across the road, went into his office and sat down on a chair. He is a wood carver and was whittling away on his current job. Without stopping he soon said, “Well, what do you want?” So I asked, “Is there a man in grandma’s upstairs that watches you sleep?  He stopped, put down his tools and said, “I don’t want to talk about that.” He then took a drink of coffee and went back to whittling. Evidently the conversation was over about that subject.

Something that interesting wasn’t going to leave my mind so easily. In the weeks to come I asked my father the same question over and over. Finally it paid off and the old man cracked. He said, “Fine, I’ll tell you but after I do you won’t want to stay at your grandparents house again.” I braced myself and he continued. “As your mom said we stayed there when we first got married. I had heard about the thing in the attic and I thought it was a bunch of crap. But one night at about three in the morning your mother shook me awake and said, ‘Mike, there it is.’ I opened my eyes and it looked so much like a man standing there that I lunged at it to tackle him I just went through it and fell onto the floor.” Being a kid that was enough for me. I even stopped doing homework up there. But that’s not the end of the story.

Years later after I grew up and moved out, my parents got a divorce. My grandfather had passed away by then and my mother moved in with my grandmother into the farmhouse. My youngest sister Annie was still in high school at the time and moved in with them as well. She stayed in a small room just under the stairs to the second floor. In fact you could see the underside of the stairway going through the room. Annie was having a hard time sleeping in that room because she would hear footsteps going up and down the stairs all night. Unfortunately I was living over 2000 miles away at the time and couldn’t go check it out.

One night Dad received a call from Annie asking if he could come get her. She said mom and grandma had gone shopping and she was alone and scared because someone was pounding on the door. My father assumed that a salesman had stopped by and scared her but agreed to drive to come get her. After getting off the phone he realized he had a few things to do first and called her back to tell her but there was no answer. Fearing something had happened he raced out.

As he was driving up to the house he saw her sitting in the yard.  As he got out of the car he said, “You know Annie generally if someone is pounding on the door you don’t go outside to wait.  She said, “Nobody was pounding on the front door. Someone was pounding on the door to the upstairs!” My father ran inside and searched but of course found nothing. To this day I wonder what she would have seen if Annie had opened the door.

A couple years later I moved back to the area. Unfortunately by then my grandmother moved into town and my mother had the place torn down and built a new home where the old one stood. My mother happily said there was nothing spooky happening in her new place. So I thought it was all over. However my other sister Heather had done something kind of silly before the home was demolished.

Heather said she felt bad for the ghost. So when they were cleaning out the furniture she went upstairs and said out loud, “This house is going to be torn down. If you want you can come home with me.” Why she did this is beyond me. I guess she always did have a soft heart. Later the house was gone and all was quiet.

Many months later my sister started waking up at night to hear her toddler talking to someone. She’d ask him to whom he was talking and he’d always say, “Monster.” Then one night she saw it. She opened her eye and there he was standing in the doorway. She said she sat up startled and it would just fade away. She claimed she didn’t mind because she felt it wouldn’t hurt her.

Then one night she woke up to her teenage daughter screaming. She ran into her room and found her hysterical because she saw a man in her room. Heather tried to tell her she didn’t think it was going to hurt anyone but she refused to sleep in her room. Finally after a couple days she got her to go back and then it happened again. This was getting to be a bit much.
Heather had taken a few things from the old house before they tore it down and one thing was a desk and shelves unit that she planned to refinish. One day she went out the garage to get started on the project and she got a strange feeling like someone was there, followed by a loud buzzing in her ear. She decided to check out where the desk came from so she called my grandmother. Come to find out the desk was in the house when my grandparents moved in and was the only thing that remained of the original home. This gave her the feeling that she had a little leverage. So she went back out and started scraping old paint off the desk. Soon the buzzing started again.

She dropped the tools and yelled out loud, “Stop it now! I’m not going to destroy it. I’m refinishing it and plan on moving it inside. But if you don’t stop scaring my children I’m going to smash it and throw it in the trash!” Heather has not had a single thing happen since then.
Why was the ghost apparently trapped in the attic? Was he clinging to the final piece of his beloved home? I went to Heather’s house and stayed the night a couple time but never saw a thing. I guess the threat did the trick for now. At least until someone else gets the desk.

A Little Dusting

Tis the season that I start looking at the old spooky shelf, up high to keep away from the kiddies.  You know the one.  Everyone with an interest in paranormal has at least one shelf.  Some have more than one.  And some have even more in boxes somewhere so they don't freak out visitors to their home.  lol

Too Jumpy

Here is a good example of what happened when to people bounce emotions off each other during an investigation. If you watch the entire sequence you can see how they escalate to the point at 20:51 when he loses it completely.  You really need to keep a cool head out there.

TOP5s Creepiest Ghost Sightings

Hey my friend over at the Top5s YouTube channel asked me to share a video I really enjoyed. The unique thing about it is the #1 video was recorded by him! Please note the shadow and footsteps are a hologram he admits however the consistent phone interference is unexplained. Check it out!

Nocturne Society Going Away? Please Help!

Yeah, I really haven't been keeping the site up to date. This is mainly due to my uncertainty with the subject. I've become much more interested in science in the past few years and science doesn't really mesh well with the supernatural. I still find the subject fun however more as a source of entertainment than actual "search for the truth" that all these other sites claim.

Recently I received a notice that my domain needs renewed and I'm thinking of letting it go. I'm not even sure if anyone reads the site anymore. If there is real interest I will keep it however if not I don't see a need.

If you would like to see the site continue and get regular updates send me an email or post a comment on the this blog. The deadline is April. The email is thenocturnesociety@gmail.com.

Short Ghost Story

Tonight we've got a nice little true short story for you called The Sleep Watcher.  Hope you enjoy it.
